Facility Includes: Waterfront area with docks, fishing dock, concession, picnic tables, playground area, basketball courts, outdoor floor hockey court & shuffle board courts
Hood Park is located on Rollins Street in Derry and will officially open for the 2015 season today. Operating hours throughout the season are 10:00 am - 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday (weather permitting). During these hours, the Hood House and concession stand will be open, lifeguards are on duty, and Recreation Staff are present. Free swim hours will be 12:30pm- 4:00pm. These hours are subject to change for swim screenings, events, or inclement weather.
SUMMER CONCERT SERIES
Grab your family, neighbors, and lawn chairs and head on over to MacGregor Park for the Summer Concert Series! With a mix of genres, there is sure to be something for you! The concerts will take place on Tuesday’s beginning in June;Click on the link for a printable tri-fold with the entire concert line-up, as well as a biography of the bands featured this summer! Welcome to Derry's Splashpad Park! Located within Don Ball Park, the Splashpad is the perfect place to cool off during the summer. The park includes various sprinkler, splashing, and dumping apparatus. There are no water slides, pools, etc. The park is free of charge and is open during the summer months, weather permitting. Please be sure to review the Rules & Regulations before visiting the park.

GALLIENS TOWN BEACH OPEN!
Location: 39 Pond Rd in Derry, on the corner of Route 102 & Pond Rd.

Facility Includes: Concession, bathrooms, changing area, sandy beach area, parking, fishing dock, & picnic tables
Gallien's Town Beach is Derry's prime summer location on the corner of Route 102 and Pond Road. GTB is open to Derry Residents and their guests only (with proof of residency for all participants). Season passes may be obtained at both the Parks & Recreation Office, or at the GTB Concession Stand.
Normal operating hours during the summer season are 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m., Sunday through Saturday (weather permitting). During these hours lifeguards are on duty for swimming, the concession stand is available for purchasing food and drinks, and the park area is open for picnicking, fishing, and the launching of non-motorized boats. Kayak and paddle boat rentals are available to patrons for $5.00 - $10.00 per hour.
SUMMER FUN RUNS!<br />Thursday's in July

Where: Pinkerton Academy Track, Derry, NH
Who: All children ages 2 to 92
What: Donation of a nonperishable food product weekly is all that is requested.

Members of the Greater Derry Track Club will lead stretching exercises and offer running tips. Races are based on the following age groups: Adaptive 100m dash, 2-3 yr (50 meters), 4-6 yr (200m), 7-8 yr (300m), 9-10 yr (600m), 11-13 yr (cross country mile), 14 yr & up (1 mile race on track). Children will receive participation ribbons each week. Water, Gatorade and watermelons will be supplied each week. Ribbons provided by Derry Recreation and runners who complete the series will receive medals and T-Shirts from GDTC. A registration form can be found at the attached link.

THEME WEEK: WILD ABOUT NATURE<br />Monday, July 27th- Friday, July 31st
Join the Derry Parks & Recreation Department for a week of fun at Don Ball Park and Hood Park! This week participate in activities that take you outdoors and up close to nature! Start the week by making some garden friends Monday, enjoy some camp-side stories, games, and s’mores on Tuesday, get up close to New Hampshire’s fierce flying predators in a LIVE Raptor Rapture animal presentation on Wednesday, have a hands-on experience with some of New Hampshire Native Reptiles on Thursday, and test your own scavenger skills in a Nature Hunt on Friday! Dressing up is so much fun and we hope you will join the staff this week in themed attire!

The Derry Recreation Department will host a specialty craft every Monday at both Don Ball Park & Hood Park throughout the summer while supplies last. Each craft will coincide with the theme of the week! The craft today is “In the Garden”

The Derry Parks & Recreation Department is excited to offer a new program at Hood Park for children excited about music! Classes will be held outdoors at Hood Park from 12:30pm-1:15pm every Monday in July as long weather permits. This class is intended for children of all ages with a caregiver available to assist if needed. There’s no fee to participate however children are expected to participate each week if they would like to be part of a scheduled performance. For more information about the program call (603) 432-6138 and speak with Miss. Megan! Registration forms will be available at the beach!
HOOD PARK: CAMP-SIDE STORIES, GAMES, & S’MORES!<br />Tuesday, July 28th
Gather around the Hood Park Campfire at 12:30pm for camp-side stories, games, and s’mores! Stories and activities will be geared to the age of the participants. *Children are welcome to bring their own fishing Gear if they’d like to go fishing after the activities!


The Derry Public Library will hold story time at Hood Park today at 10:30am
CONCERT IN THE PARK: PONY EXPRESS<br />Tuesday, July 28th

One of this area’s top country bands, Pony Express has been named “Band of the Year” at the National Country Music Association of America Competition. Lead singer Karen Morgan has often been referred to as “New Hampshire’s First Lady of Country Music.” Performing across New England for more than ten years, Pony Express has gained national attention and a huge dedicated following!

Visit Don Ball Park today as we get up close with New Hampshire’s Raptors. Look into an owl’s eyes and checkout the talons of a red-tailed hawk. Starting at 12:30pm! This is a FREE event you don’t want to miss!
HOOD PARK: WORLD OF REPTILES<br />Thursday, July 30th
Visit Hood Park today from 12:30pm –1:30pm for an interactive and hands-on experience with some of New Hampshire Native Reptiles. A professional program educator from the New Hampshire Audubon will be available to talk about our guests which will include Live Turtles and Snakes. Staff may need to restrict the group size depending on numbers of participants. This is a great activity for all ages.
DON BALL PARK: NATURES SCAVENGER HUNT <br />Friday, July 31st
Pinecones and dandelions and acorns, oh my! Bring your nature smarts and prepare for a scavenger hunt for all your favorite nature items! This event will take place at Don Ball Park today at 12:30pm. Please check-in on the patio once you arrive!

Join the Derry Parks & Recreation Department for our last week of scheduled activities at Don Ball Park and Hood Park! Start the week by making some crazy carnival characters on Monday, have your face painted by a talented Hood Park artist on Tuesday, enjoy a pony ride on Wednesday, play some fun games at the annual Carnival Day on Thursday, and participate in water wars on Friday! We are excited for this last week of events and hope you can join us!


Also, on Monday from 12:30-1:15 visit Hood Park for our Musical Monday performance! Children have been practicing for several weeks to put on this fun performance with their instructor. If you have questions about this event, please call Hood Park at (603) 432-6138.

Highlighted by strong male and female vocals, the band’s popularity has been determined by their ability to sound like the original artist! Registration for this trip will begin Monday, June 8th for Derry Residents and Monday, June 22nd for Non-residents.

This spectacular trip will take place Thursday, August 13th, 2015

Hop onboard our Derry Recreation Safari Bus for an exciting adventure to visit the wild animals at Southwick Zoo! Animals include an African Lion, African Leopard, Zebras, Giraffes, Rhinoceros, various monkeys, and many more! Registration fee includes coach bus transportation and entrance fee into the zoo. Lunch can be purchased inside the zoo at various locations, or participants may bring a bagged lunch. Derry Resident fee is $17.00 and Non-resident fee is $27.00. This up and coming band from the local area is making quite the stir! The band, compromised of Chris Lester, Gordy Gourlay, and Rich Knox, are well known and established musicians in their own right! They bring a unique, unparalleled rock performance to each show, covering various musical genres ranging from classic rock, alternative, modern rock, and pop culture classics. This is definitely a stellar powerful performance that no one should miss!

The Reminisants have been entertaining audiences of all ages throughout New England since 1973. Senior Summer Picnic

Join us for a fun filled catered picnic at the beach! The Derry Parks & Recreation Dept. invites you for food and entertainment all at the tranquil setting of Galliens Town Beach. The beach will be open just for you today! During the event, DJ Greg Sowa will play some classic and new musical hits for you to dance to. Relax under the white canopy tent or kick your feet up and sit on the beach. The meal will include the usual picnic favorites served by the Parks & Recreation Employees! Relax! You’ve earned it! Individuals age 50 and older are welcome to attend this annual end of summer tradition. Tickets are $10.00 each and are required for admittance.
