Facility Includes: Waterfront area with docks, fishing dock, concession, picnic tables, playground area, basketball courts, outdoor floor hockey court & shuffle board courts
Hood Park is located on Rollins Street in Derry and will officially open for the 2015 season today. Operating hours throughout the season are 10:00 am - 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday (weather permitting). During these hours, the Hood House and concession stand will be open, lifeguards are on duty, and Recreation Staff are present. Free swim hours will be 12:30pm- 4:00pm. These hours are subject to change for swim screenings, events, or inclement weather.
SUMMER CONCERT SERIES
Grab your family, neighbors, and lawn chairs and head on over to MacGregor Park for the Summer Concert Series! With a mix of genres, there is sure to be something for you! The concerts will take place on Tuesday’s beginning in June;Click on the link for a printable tri-fold with the entire concert line-up, as well as a biography of the bands featured this summer! Welcome to Derry's Splashpad Park! Located within Don Ball Park, the Splashpad is the perfect place to cool off during the summer. The park includes various sprinkler, splashing, and dumping apparatus. There are no water slides, pools, etc. The park is free of charge and is open during the summer months, weather permitting. Please be sure to review the Rules & Regulations before visiting the park.

GALLIENS TOWN BEACH OPEN!

Facility Includes: Concession, bathrooms, changing area, sandy beach area, parking, fishing dock, & picnic tables
Gallien's Town Beach is Derry's prime summer location on the corner of Route 102 and Pond Road. GTB is open to Derry Residents and their guests only (with proof of residency for all participants). Season passes may be obtained at both the Parks & Recreation Office, or at the GTB Concession Stand.
Normal operating hours during the summer season are 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m., Sunday through Saturday (weather permitting). During these hours lifeguards are on duty for swimming, the concession stand is available for purchasing food and drinks, and the park area is open for picnicking, fishing, and the launching of non-motorized boats. Kayak and paddle boat rentals are available to patrons for $5.00 - $10.00 per hour.
SUMMER FUN RUNS!<br />Thursday's in July

Time: Registration opens 6:00pm & Races start 6:30pm
Where: Pinkerton Academy Track, Derry, NH
Who: All children ages 2 to 92
What: Donation of a nonperishable food product weekly is all that is requested.

Members of the Greater Derry Track Club will lead stretching exercises and offer running tips. Races are based on the following age groups: Adaptive 100m dash, 2-3 yr (50 meters), 4-6 yr (200m), 7-8 yr (300m), 9-10 yr (600m), 11-13 yr (cross country mile), 14 yr & up (1 mile race on track). Children will receive participation ribbons each week. Water, Gatorade and watermelons will be supplied each week. Ribbons provided by Derry Recreation and runners who complete the series will receive medals and T-Shirts from GDTC. A registration form can be found at the attached link.

Who's your superhero alter ego? Visit the Derry Public Library today at 1:30pm to make a costume to wear when you're feeling heroic! We'll make masks, cuffs, shields, capes*, and more! * If you want to make a cape, bring your own new or gently used t-shirt to decorate with our supplies. Ages 3+ with caregiver, no registration required, space is limited to 100 children.

The Chad LaMarsh Band is a high energy five piece dance band comprised of seasoned musicians whose goal is to keep the crowd rocking! The band’s front man, Chad LaMarsh, has acquired an intense following in the area!Their impressive song list touches on many different genres and style of pop music, country, rock, alternative and everything in between. The band’s unique sound is a masterful mix of energy, precision and passion. With his dynamic, charismatic vibe, Chad’s energy is infectious and is hands down one of the best live performances around!

DPL: SUPERHERO CHALLENGE<br />Thursday, July 2nd
Visit the Derry Public Library today at 1:30pm and wear your super costume! Today show off your super hero powers by completing skill challenges and overcoming obstacles to show how heroic you can be! Ages 3+ with caregiver. No registration required. Space is limited to first 100 children.

Join the Derry Parks & Recreation Department for a week of Top Secret and Under Cover Missions at Don Ball Park and Hood Park! This week meet incredible individuals (and a robot) that help solve real crimes. Make your own detective badge on Monday, crack a top secret code on Tuesday, meet with New Hampshire State police and their bomb squad robot on Wednesday, meet a K-9 Detective from the Fire Marshal's Office on Thursday, and get a hands-on experience with Top Secret Agent Training!


Activities will be held at Hood Park Located at 4 Rollins Street on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday and at Don Ball Park on 14 Humphrey Road on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday this week. The Derry Parks & Recreation Department is excited to offer a new program at Hood Park for children excited about music! Classes will be held outdoors at Hood Park from 12:30pm-1:15pm every Monday in July as long weather permits. This class is intended for children of all ages with a caregiver available to assist if needed. There’s no fee to participate however children are expected to participate each week if they would like to be part of a scheduled performance. Can you crack the secret code? Stop by Hood Park today at 12:30pm to receive your secret message and search around the park for clues on how to decode it! Other undercover detectives will be available to help but be careful not to get caught!

Lindsay returns to DPL this summer with yet another amazing puppet show! This highly interactive, comedic performance delights both the young and young at heart. Even timid audience members will love her giant hand-crafted puppets. All ages with caregiver. No registration. Space is limited to 100 children.

This is not your Daddy’s bluegrass! CWB’s song craft extends into tight arrangements and sets that will keep folks dancing!

Today at Don Ball Park we will have an educational demonstration from the New Hampshire State Police, Special Services Bomb Squad at 1:00pm. Have a front row seat to learn what the team uses to keep our Communities safe including a mobile robotic demonstration!

Join us at Hood Park starting at 1:00PM as we welcome two very special guests from the State Fire Marshal’s Office. New Hampshire State Investigator Stacey and her trusty K-9 will provide an interactive demonstration on how they crack the case!
DPL: TOTO THE TORNADO KITTEN <br />Thursday July 9th at 1:30 PM
Come meet Toto the Tornado Kitten and his owner, Jonathan Hall! Toto, who was rescued from a tree after a tornado, has become a spokes- cat for animal rescue! 100% of the proceeds from Toto’s books are donated to the Animal Rescue League of Boston! Come listen to Toto’s story and meet these two heroes. Ages 3+ with caregiver. No registration. Space is limited to 100 children.
TAYLOR: CARNIVAL NIGHT<br />Thursday, July 9th
Come to the library and play many games of chance. You will get a prize and have a snack that evening. All of the fun starts at 6:30 pm. This will be held in our parking lot. In case of rain, this event will be cancelled. Please register with the Taylor Library at 603-432-7186 so we know numbers for prizes and food.
DON BALL: TOP SECRET AGENT TRAINING <br />Friday, July 10th 1:00pm
Join us at Don Ball Park from 1pm-3pm today for your secret agent training. First go through a series of tasks to prepare you for your first field mission. Once completed, you will receive your Top Secret assignment. A reward awaits all top investigators.
THEME WEEK: PIRATE & PRINCESS<br />Monday July 13th- Friday July 17th
Join the Derry Parks & Recreation Department for a week of Pirate and Princess Fun at Don Ball Park and Hood Park! This week participate in a magical adventure through a different land! Make your own pirate and princess puppets on Monday, have a special viewing of a Tinkerbell and Pirate movie on Tuesday, enjoy a magical pony ride on Wednesday, march in a pirate parade on Thursday, and dress for a prince and princess tea party on Friday! Dressing up is so much fun and we hope you join the staff this week in themed attire! Dress-up is highly encouraged this week.

Truffle is in it for the long haul! Having released five albums and assorted compilations since 1986, they have a long standing and solid fan base, playing alongside headliners such as Little Feat, Phish, Dave Matthews Band, the Radiators, and Blues Traveler to name a few. Their sound, a mix of swampy soul, R&B, bluegrass, New Orleans grooves, and world music, has been stewing in a pot for years and is ever changing. Their live shows, never dictated by a set list, is eclectic and different every night! You need to come out and experience it for yourself!

The Derry Recreation Department Sponsors FREE pony rides today ONLY at Hood Park, provided by Follow your Dreams Farm LLC of Derry from 1:00pm-3:00pm. Parent permission is required. Please note that Hood Park employees reserve the right to close the line early if necessary.

Come celebrate mythological heroes with tales of the heroism of Hercules! Hercules had to complete 12 difficult labors, including slaying scary monsters and capturing rare magical beasts. Bring your favorite Doll to our Tea Party. Sip tea (juice) from a real teacup, eat some fancy cakes and sandwiches, listen to stories and do a craft. If you can, wear a fancy sun dress and have your Doll dress up too. This program is for ages 5 and up and you must pre register as space is limited.

Chrysanthemum loves the sound of her unique name, but on the first day of school bullies make fun of the name she loves so much. The story is a lesson in feeling good about being an Individual and celebrating our differences. We’ll listen to this story by Kevin Henkes, then draw our self-portraits featuring something that makes us special. Ages 5+ with caregiver. No registration. Space is limited to 30 children.

Following the release of their new EP “Spark it Up” The band, featuring Kliff Scott, Ryan Larochelle, Andrew Larochelle, and Joey Bertin, has been heating up the country scene! The band has evolved over the last decade and is forged from years of touring and writing music; hence, creating a new, vibrant, and refreshing smooth country rock sound that is melody driven. Duke likes to shake things up with energetic and passionate performances that captivate audiences of all ages!

Southwick's ZooTrip
Registration for this trip will begin Monday, June 8th for Derry Residents and Monday, June 22nd for Non-residents.

This spectacular trip will take place Thursday, August 13th, 2015

Hop onboard our Derry Recreation Safari Bus for an exciting adventure to visit the wild animals at Southwick Zoo! Animals include an African Lion, African Leopard, Zebras, Giraffes, Rhinoceros, various monkeys, and many more! Registration fee includes coach bus transportation and entrance fee into the zoo. Lunch can be purchased inside the zoo at various locations, or participants may bring a bagged lunch. Derry Resident fee is $17.00 and Non-resident fee is $27.00. Senior Summer Picnic

Galliens Town Beach- 39 Pond Road

Join us for a fun filled catered picnic at the beach! The Derry Parks & Recreation Dept. invites you for food and entertainment all at the tranquil setting of Galliens Town Beach. The beach will be open just for you today! During the event, DJ Greg Sowa will play some classic and new musical hits for you to dance to. Relax under the white canopy tent or kick your feet up and sit on the beach. The meal will include the usual picnic favorites served by the Parks & Recreation Employees! Relax! You’ve earned it! Individuals age 50 and older are welcome to attend this annual end of summer tradition. Tickets are $10.00 each and are required for admittance.
